Bulky winter layers may be on their way out. New York-based heated apparel brand Wulcea has launched a next-generation range of graphene-heated jackets aimed at commuters, outdoor workers and winter sports fans — and the specs are worth a look if you're heading somewhere seriously cold.
The core of the new collection is the company's GrapheneNano™ technology, which swaps the stiff wire heating elements found in older heated garments for flexible graphene panels. The result, the company says, is broader and more even warmth, a softer feel inside the jacket, and easier laundering. The heating works via far-infrared technology, which produces a gentle, sun-like warmth rather than a hot-spot effect.
Performance numbers are solid for the category. Each jacket heats up in about three seconds and offers three adjustable temperature levels, driven by an 18,400mAh fast-charging battery pack that promises up to ten hours of continuous heat on the low setting — enough for a full day on the slopes or a long cold-weather city break. Safety has been baked in too: the jackets run on a low-voltage 12V system with thermal control that cuts heating automatically above 55°C, and the line carries UL, FCC and CE certifications plus UN38.3 battery transport compliance, which matters if you're flying with the battery pack.
Two flagship models anchor the range. The Men's Classic Graphene Heated Jacket is a hardshell built for winter camping, ice fishing and outdoor job sites, with six heating zones including the back neck, upper back, lower waist and heated front pockets. It comes in sizes S–5XL and five colourways, including hunting camo. The Women's Ski Heated Jacket takes a colour-blocked, ski-meets-street approach, with heating zones focused on the arms and neck — areas skiers tend to feel the cold — in sizes S–3XL and four colours. Softshell commuter styles and heated vests round out the collection.
For travellers, this is gear that earns its place in a carry-on. A heated jacket can replace two or three bulky mid-layers, which means lighter packing for ski trips, northern-lights chasing or any winter city break where you'll be standing around outside for hours. The ten-hour battery life covers a day of sightseeing, and the low-profile design means you won't look like you're wearing technical climbing kit to a Christmas market.
Wulcea says it has already served more than a million users worldwide and is positioning the new line as affordable smart apparel rather than niche expedition gear. If you've been put off heated clothing by memories of rigid wires and patchy warmth, this generation of graphene-based designs is a genuine step up — and a practical upgrade for anyone whose winter plans involve genuine cold.
