Lisbon's MACAM will host an unusually intimate fashion event on October 31, 2026: BEFORE WORDS, a four-hour conversation with stylist Roz Kaur, limited to just 40 women and held in English. It's the first edition of the INÉSSENCE Circle, a new in-person series from the Portuguese fashion and lifestyle project founded by Inês Noronha.
Kaur is a name worth knowing if you follow style conversations for women over 40. She's 59, has spent more than 30 years in fashion — including as a senior stylist at Anthropologie — and has appeared in Harper's Bazaar Arabia, Vogue India and Who What Wear. Her following of over 1.3 million people online hasn't grown because of trend forecasts. Her pitch, as she frames it, is honesty about style, ageing and visibility rather than rules about what women past a certain age should or shouldn't wear.
The premise of BEFORE WORDS is that a woman communicates before she says anything: clothes, posture and presence form a visual language that often lags behind the life she's actually living. The session is built around that gap — who you're becoming, and whether the way you present yourself reflects it. Expect a discussion moving from trends to identity, from fear of invisibility to presence, and from perfection to coherence. Explicitly, it is not a prescriptive workshop: no lists of wardrobe essentials, no 'don'ts after 40'.
For Inês Noronha, who brings two decades in fashion and beauty to the project, the event is the public debut of a philosophy she's been developing: style as a language that starts from within, and one your image is already speaking whether you've updated it or not.
Why would a traveller care? If you're a woman over 40 planning time in Lisbon around late October, this turns a city break into something more purposeful — a small-group experience in one of Europe's most likeable capitals, in English, that you can pair with the city's galleries, food scene and autumn light. The 40-seat cap means it's the kind of thing that sells out rather than the kind you decide on at the door, so if the subject resonates, book early and build a few days in Lisbon around it.
