Hong Kong's Bar Leone has been named the best bar in the world for the second year running, but the real story of the 2026 World's 50 Best Bars list is Europe. Announced at a ceremony in Milan, the ranking puts 18 European venues in the top 50, with another 18 in the 51-100 extended list published in September — more than a third of all positions.
Italy had the night of its life. Moebius Milano climbed from seventh to second place, making it the top bar in Europe. It sits inside a former textile factory and mixes cocktails, food, music and design, serving everything from classics to more experimental pours. Florence's Locale Firenze came in at 33. Add in that Milan hosted the awards, and the city is having a moment.
Paris has overtaken London as Europe's best-represented city for the first time, with four entries: The Cambridge Public House (13), Bar Nouveau (15), newcomer De Vie (23) and Danico (26). That puts the French capital level with Hong Kong and New York, which each also landed four bars. London still holds its own thanks to the evergreen Connaught Bar at number eight, plus Satan's Whiskers (29) and new entry Waltz (32).
Athens is quietly becoming a cocktail capital. Line leads the Greek charge at number five, operating out of a former art gallery with a menu built around fermentation — much of the fruit, syrups and other ingredients are made in-house. The Bar in Front of the Bar jumped 28 places to 19, earning the Nikka Highest Climber Award, and Barro Negro rounds out the city's entries at 40. Spain has three too: Barcelona's Sips (16) and Paradiso (17) — the latter collecting the Rémy Martin Legend of the List Award — and Madrid debutant Angelita at 50.
The rest of the top five is a global tour in itself. Alquímico in Cartagena, Colombia, took third — the highest ranking for the Americas — from a restored colonial mansion with three floors of drinks built on local produce and seasonal Colombian ingredients. Fourth went to Bar Us in Bangkok, an intimate venue that treats cocktails like a tasting menu, guiding guests through a sequence of seasonal serves.
Other standouts worth knowing: Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City (6), Zest in Seoul (7), Lady Bee in Lima (9), and a strong Latin American showing including Exímia and Tan Tan in São Paulo, Tres Monos in Buenos Aires and Medellín's Mamba Negra and Bar Carmen. Smaller capitals got a look in as well, with Mirror Bar in Bratislava and Nouvelle Vague in Tirana flying the flag for central and southeastern Europe.
For anyone who plans trips around what's in the glass, this list is effectively a ready-made itinerary. Paris, Hong Kong and New York each offer four top-50 bars in walkable chunks of the city, while Athens — with three entries and far lower prices than the other two — might be the best-value cocktail break of 2026. Milan is an obvious pairing with Florence's Locale Firenze for an Italian double-header. Expect queues at Bar Leone and Line; most of these venues take bookings or operate waiting lists, so plan ahead rather than turning up on the night.
