If your autumn needs a jolt of adrenaline, a family farm east of Edmonton has you covered. K3 Corn Maze and Family Farm in Tofield, Alberta is bringing back Field of Screams, its annual Halloween event that transforms a daytime corn maze into something far less friendly after dark.
This marks the sixth year the farm has staged the event. Once night falls, scare actors hide throughout the maze's corn paths, waiting to startle anyone brave enough to walk through. The evening doesn't stop at the maze, either — bonfires are set up outside, and hot food and drinks will be on sale for those who survive the walk and need to thaw their nerves.
Field of Screams runs on two nights only: Saturday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct. 30, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The farm is located at 19409 Township Rd. 512, Tofield, a short drive east of Edmonton. Tickets cost $12 per person and are sold at the gate, with cash, debit and credit all accepted. It's worth keeping an eye on the farm's website and Instagram, where organisers have said more event details are coming.
Before you go, a few practical notes from the farm itself: dress warmly, wear footwear you don't mind ruining, and know that the event is not recommended for young children, people with epilepsy or heart conditions, or anyone who is pregnant. This is a genuine scare experience, not a family-friendly pumpkin patch evening.
Speaking of which — if haunted mazes aren't your thing but you still want a fall day out, K3 operates as a regular farm attraction on weekends until the end of October. Daytime visits include the corn maze in its tamer form, plus farm animals, a bale pile jump and pedal carts. Regular entry runs $15 and covers all activities except the Wagon Train Ride and the Wild West Shootout.
Why it matters: this is a cheap, easy night out for Edmontonians looking to get into the Halloween spirit without travelling far or spending much. At $12 a head, it undercuts most haunted house attractions in the region, and the double format — family-friendly farm by day, scare event by night — means it can work for different groups. Go with friends, budget for a hot snack afterwards, and maybe leave the easily spooked family members at home.
