Las Vegas has a new launchpad for the outdoors — and it's not on the Strip. Travel Nevada just cut the ribbon on its first Adventure Center in Boulder City, a purpose-built base camp designed to take the guesswork out of exploring the state's deserts, rivers, and lakes. It opened to the public on October 7, and a second hub is slated for Carson City in early 2027.

The centers are the result of a three-year partnership between Travel Nevada and Outside Inc., backed by a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant. Together the two locations represent more than $7 million invested on state-owned land. The idea is simple: put guided tours, gear rentals, bookings, and local knowledge under one roof so visitors can plan anything from a quick half-day outing to a multi-day trip without hours of research.

The Boulder City location sits about 30 minutes southeast of the Las Vegas Strip and a few minutes from the Arizona border, in prime territory for outdoor action. From the center, travellers can arrange bike rentals, Hoover Dam tours, Lake Mead cruises, Colorado River rafting and paddling, off-road tours, desert excursions, and even helicopter rides. Bookings happen on-site directly with tour operators. Notably, a shuttle service via Boulder City Express runs from Las Vegas, dropping visitors at the center in the morning and picking up in the early evening — meaning you can do this without renting a car.

The Carson City outpost, opening early 2027, is positioned roughly 30 minutes from both Reno and Lake Tahoe. Expect a different season-driven lineup: hiking, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, skiing, and snowshoeing, plus historical tours including the Nevada State Railroad Museum right next door. Organizers are currently recruiting local businesses to provide gear rentals, tour bookings, and education on Nevada's ecology and land stewardship.

The push comes as outdoor recreation booms in the state. Spending hit nearly $1.7 billion in 2025, and visits to Nevada State Parks, Great Basin National Park, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area topped 10.5 million for the second straight year.

If you want to string several stops together, Travel Nevada's Neon to Nature Route links Las Vegas with southern Nevada highlights: the Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, the ghost town of Goodsprings, the Seven Magic Mountains art installation, the Nevada State Railroad Museum, and the riverfront town of Laughlin.

Why it matters: Nevada has long been a drive-through state between bigger-name destinations, yet it packs national parks, enormous lakes, and genuine ghost towns within a short radius of a major airport. The new centers lower the barrier — no car, no gear, no complicated logistics needed. They suit travellers flying into Las Vegas or Reno who want a single day of rafting or desert riding, as well as road-trippers building a longer route. Just note the Boulder City shuttle's fixed schedule if you're relying on it, and check which operators run in your season — the Carson City hub's ski and snowshoe offerings will be winter-weighted.
