Think Christmas in flip-flops, with fireworks over the Indian Ocean. SO/ Maldives, the fashion-forward resort in Emboodhoo Lagoon just 15 minutes by speedboat from Malé's airport, has announced its festive programme, 'Lost in Waterworld – An Underwater Gala of Glamour', running from 20 December 2026 to 8 January 2027.

The season kicks off with The Great Ocean Glow on 20 December: Christmas tree lighting, cocktails and a DJ-sax-violin soundtrack at Lazuli Beach Club, plus a seafood buffet at The Citronelle Club and a wine-paired sharing feast at Hadaba. From there, the calendar rolls out poolside lunches, retro band nights, wine tastings and beach dinners.

Christmas Eve brings sunset bubbles at Lazuli followed by 'Pearls & Palms', a starlit beach BBQ with live music — and a Santa arrival by ocean for the kids. Christmas Day stacks a festive breakfast, a sail-and-savour brunch, gin tasting at Sky Dining and a big buffet dinner, capped with a moonlight movie on the beach.

New Year's Eve is the centrepiece: The Grand Oceanic Gala starts with a sunset cocktail soirée, moves to a beachfront dinner under the stars with Unoosha & The Live Band, then counts down to fireworks over the lagoon, with an after-party and late-night snacks for those still standing. A recovery brunch, 'The First Feast', opens 2027, and the programme stretches through early January with Orthodox Christmas events, guest chefs and a Maldivian culture day featuring Boduberu drumming and an island market.

Outside the parties, there's a full daily rhythm: sunrise yoga, aqua fitness, creative workshops, ocean-inspired treatments at SO/ Spa, and a kids' club line-up spanning sandcastle contests, tie-dye and pizza making.

It's a strong pick for travellers who want the festive build-up without freezing — and without the traditional Christmas script. With 80 beachfront and overwater villas (many with private pools) and a short speedboat hop from the airport, it also works for shorter festive breaks where transfer time matters.
