Wynn's big bet on Ras Al Khaimah just got a new centrepiece. The company behind Wynn Al Marjan Island, the under-construction resort on a man-made island in the UAE's northern emirate, has revealed plans for Wynn Marina — a 98-berth superyacht marina designed to plug arriving yachts straight into the resort itself.
The headline numbers are aimed squarely at the big end of the market. The marina will take vessels up to 85 metres long — super and megayachts — and, according to Wynn, more and larger yachts than any hotel-attached marina in the UAE. Rather than a standard row of berths, the design centres on a circular harbour, meant to be a defining feature of the resort, visible from guest rooms, restaurants, terraces and the promenade, with Arabian Gulf sunsets as the backdrop.
What makes it unusual is the level of integration. Fort Lauderdale-based IGY Marinas, one of the biggest names in yacht harbour management, will run operations, while a central 'Capitainerie' building will combine marina operations, guest services, concierge and captain services in one arrival point. Yacht guests will be able to check in from their vessel and walk — or dock-hop — straight into the resort's rooms, restaurants, entertainment, wellness and retail. Wynn says the marina is conceived as an extension of the resort rather than a place to park a boat.
For everyone else — the non-yacht-owning majority — the marina is being pitched as a waterfront destination in its own right: dining beside the harbour, a promenade to stroll, and a rolling parade of arriving yachts. The surrounding Marina and Ocean Estates accommodations are designed to sit at the water's edge, and the resort is already floating event ideas such as wedding arrivals by yacht.
Why should a regular traveller care? Because it signals what kind of place Wynn Al Marjan Island intends to be: a high-end, resort-scale destination on the Gulf coast of Ras Al Khaimah, an emirate better known for mountains and beaches than superyacht infrastructure. Even if you arrive by plane rather than private vessel, the marina adds a whole layer of waterfront dining and atmosphere to the resort's offering — and it puts RAK on the itinerary of the superyacht crowd, which tends to drag restaurants, beach clubs and buzz along with it.
