A new private-island resort in the Maldives is launching its first festive season with a programme built around a single idea: the changing light of a Maldivian day. RAH GILI MALDIVES, the opening island of the SIX & SIX PRIVATE ISLANDS collection, will run its 'Circle of Light' experience from 21 December 2026 to 7 January 2027.
The concept unfolds across six chapters that track the sun — sunrise for new beginnings, golden noon for discovery, starlight for evenings with friends, and candlelight for gathering. Christmas opens with a ceremonial 'First Light' lighting, Santa arriving by sea, children's workshops and treasure hunts, while Maldivian culture is woven in through Boduberu drumming, local craftsmanship and performances by 'Rayyithun' — the island's community — rather than staged shows. Wellness runs alongside: sunrise yoga, floating meditation, sound healing and lagoon lantern releases where guests set personal wishes afloat.
The peak of the season is New Year's Eve, with the Grand Circle of Light Gala on 31 December — champagne receptions, dinner, international performers, dancers, a fire show and midnight fireworks over the Indian Ocean. The first morning of 2027 flips to recovery mode: sunrise meditation, a recovery brunch and slower days that stretch the festivities into January, including Orthodox Christmas celebrations. Music comes from DJ Ravin of Buddha Bar Paris fame, who plays both the Christmas Gala Dinner (24 December) and the New Year's Eve Gala (31 December) and serves as music curator for the wider collection.
The season ends quietly, with a farewell beach bonfire and a mango-tree planting — each guest leaves a living tree on the island. Festive stays start from USD 2,588++ per night for a Beach Pool Villa, with complimentary Half Board included over the period.
Who is it for? Travellers who find packaged resort itineraries stifling. The resort's 'Live Your Lifestyle' philosophy means there's no fixed programme — you can meditate at dawn, linger over breakfast, dive, or skip it all, with families free to split up and reconvene at dinner. It also suits anyone after a festive season that blends Christmas traditions with genuine Maldivian culture rather than a generic tropical Christmas. The mango tree goodbye and lagoon lanterns give it a keepsake quality most resort festivities lack.
