Diary date for art-loving Algarve visitors: a new regional art fair is coming to Lagoa over the Easter weekend of 2027, running March 26 to 28 at the town's Congress Center. It's the biggest project yet from Art Lovers Algarve, a non-profit collective set up three years ago to give local artists a way to meet, share ideas and exhibit together.
The venue choice is a practical one. The Lagoa Congress Center sits by the Arade River, directly across from Portimão, and its floor-to-ceiling daylight windows, ample parking and proximity to several towns make it an easy weekend outing rather than a trek. Organisers are planning more than static displays too: alongside painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramicists and jewellery makers, expect a shop, a graffiti wall, a silent charity auction, a scavenger hunt and Easter-themed decorating aimed at families.
Director Shelly Foley has said the ambition is to turn the show into an annual fixture, with a semi-annual event as a longer-term goal. The collective has clearly struck a chord among Algarve-based creatives — member and self-taught painter NC Whiteman credits it with giving her the confidence to exhibit publicly for the first time, while painter Patrícia Faísca sees the show as a chance to reach the international mix of residents and visitors the region attracts.
Artists who want to take part can still apply — there are stands remaining, with applications handled through the Algarve Art Show website. Details of the collective itself are on the Art Lovers Algarve site.
Why should a traveller care? Easter 2027 in the Algarve usually means mild spring weather, far fewer crowds than the summer peak, and towns like Lagoa, Portimão and Silves at their most relaxed. An indoor, free-flowing art event by the river is a good anchor for a shoulder-season trip — pair it with a walk along the Arade, the cliffs at Carvoeiro or the spring almond and orange blossom countryside inland. If the show becomes the annual event its organisers want, this first edition will be the one to catch.
