Dance music fans in Dubai have a date to circle: Saturday, October 10, when Benny Benassi and MORTEN take over Coca-Cola Arena at City Walk for the third edition of FREQUENCY 971.
It's a bill built on contrast. Benassi represents the older guard of electro-house — the Italian producer whose 2002 track Satisfaction is still one of the most instantly recognisable records in dance music. His CV stretches well beyond that: Cinema, famously remixed by Skrillex in a Grammy-winning version, plus production work with Madonna, Chris Brown, John Legend and David Guetta, and festival slots at Coachella, EDC, Tomorrowland and Ultra. If you were anywhere near a club in the mid-2000s, you know his catalogue whether you realise it or not.
MORTEN, on the other hand, is the sound of right now. The Danish DJ co-created Future Rave with David Guetta — a heavier, more cinematic strain of big-room electronic music — and has collaborated with ARTBAT, RAYE, Aloe Blacc and Clementine Douglas. He's another Tomorrowland and Ultra regular, so expect that section of the night to be the loudest. Dubai-based DJ Slim opens the local chapter of the line-up.
Tickets are refreshingly affordable by arena-show standards. Bronze entry starts at Dhs99, with regular standing at Dhs149 and a full ladder of upgrade options: Silver at Dhs199, Gold at Dhs249, Diamond at Dhs299, the 21+ Fanpit at Dhs349 and the premium 21+ Elevate Deck at Dhs750. Tickets are available via the Coca-Cola Arena website.
Why it matters for travellers: if you're planning a Dubai trip this autumn, a big-name arena show for roughly the price of a nice dinner is an easy add-on. Coca-Cola Arena sits within City Walk, the open-air dining and entertainment district just off Sheikh Zayed Road, so you can pair the gig with dinner beforehand and be steps from the venue. October also marks the point when Dubai's extreme summer heat starts easing, making it one of the better months to actually be outdoors in the city.
