Dubai's glamping scene just got a serious upgrade. Our Habitas, the group behind wellness-led resorts in AlUla and Doha, has opened Caravan Hatta in the Hajar mountains about an hour and 45 minutes' drive from the city. The setup: 50 Airstream trailers arranged for privacy on a rocky slope above Hatta Dam, with the water on one side and craggy peaks wrapping around the rest. Guests leave their cars at a welcome area and are driven up the steep drive in the resort's Nissan Patrols — the reveal at the top is half the fun.

The trailers come in two grades. Ridge caravans are the entry level; peak caravans are a touch roomier and look out to either the mountains or the dam. Inside it's industrial metal and dark woods softened with local detail: Sadu-patterned textiles, date energy bites on arrival, and bathroom products made with Hatta honey. There's a proper bed, kitchenette, seating area and a walk-in shower, plus a terrace with a day bed that doubles as a stargazing spot.

The social hub is the Lakehouse, home to an infinity pool over the dam and Madar, the main restaurant. Food trucks out front serve Middle Eastern dishes built on local ingredients — spiced chicken shish with homemade pita, chicken and halloumi on rye sourdough, ribeye grilled over open fire with a tamarind-Hatta honey glaze. Pre-bookable extras include group BBQs and zarb-cooked meats, and there's a sunrise picnic-basket breakfast delivered to a viewing deck if you want the full dam-at-dawn moment.

Where Caravan Hatta earns its keep is the activities roster. Three mapped hikes of varying difficulty start from the property; there's an outdoor jungle gym, sauna, cold plunge, and a small spa, Thuraya Wellness, doing 60-minute signature massages with hot stones and element-inspired oils. Daily complimentary sessions include sunrise yoga on the pool deck and sunset sound healing on — genuinely — the helipad. One practical note from the review: pool loungers fill up fast on weekend afternoons, so plan accordingly.

It works for solo resets, couples and families, and it's pet-friendly, which is still rare in the UAE. Nightly rates start from Dhs1,040 including breakfast. For Dubai residents craving mountain air without a flight, or visitors who've done the malls and want the emirate's quieter side, this is about as easy as an escape gets.
