Royal Caribbean's next big ship is beating its own deadline. The Hero of the Seas, the fourth vessel in the line's game-changing Icon class, will now welcome its first passengers on August 1, 2027 — ten days ahead of the original August 11 launch date — thanks to construction running ahead of schedule at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

The early delivery has freed up room for two brand-new inaugural sailings. The debut cruise is a seven-night Western Caribbean voyage from Fort Lauderdale that stops at Royal Caribbean's private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. A week later, on August 8, 2027, the ship runs a quick three-night escape to CocoCay and the Bahamas from Port Everglades. Both go on sale October 7, 2026, at 8:00 AM ET — so anyone eyeing a spot on a brand-new ship's maiden season should mark the calendar.

If you're already booked on the original August 11, 2027 sailing, you don't need to do anything yet. Royal Caribbean will reach out with options, including the chance to move to one of the new departures or stay put.

Once the launch fanfare settles, the Hero of the Seas settles into a permanent home at PortMiami, taking over from its famous sister Icon of the Seas. At 5,610 passengers, it's a floating resort town, running year-round weeklong Caribbean itineraries with ports of call that include Mexico, the Bahamas, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Honduras.

One detail that stands out for families: onboard entertainment will headline with "The SpongeBob Musical," a full-scale stage production based on the Nickelodeon cartoon, staged in the ship's Royal Theater. It's the kind of headline show that tends to book up fast on new vessels, so reserving seats early on the app is worth remembering.

For travellers weighing a 2027 Caribbean holiday, this is a rare window: sailings on a flagship-class ship before the itineraries fill out months in advance, plus a short three-night option that's ideal for a first taste of an Icon-class ship without committing a full week. Expect the usual Icon-class buzz — large-scale entertainment, waterpark-style decktops and heavy emphasis on CocoCay — and expect demand for the first departures to be brisk once bookings open.
