Buying a scuba regulator setup has always been one of the trickier purchases in diving. Get it wrong and you're stuck paying for hoses, first stages or accessories that don't match the kind of diving you actually do. Swedish manufacturer Poseidon Diving Systems thinks it has a fix: a new online Regulator Configurator that builds a setup around your diving style rather than handing you a generic off-the-shelf kit.

The tool lives on Poseidon's website and works by asking how you intend to dive. It covers the main configuration families — standard recreational setups, streamlined rigs, long hose, doubles, sidemount and stage tanks — then assembles the correct first stages, second stages, hoses, accessories and layout to match. The idea is that you end up with a purpose-built system from day one, instead of buying a standardised kit and paying a technician to modify it afterwards.

The flow is straightforward. You work through the configurator, and when you're happy with the setup you pick your nearest Poseidon Flagship Dealer as your collection point. That dealer receives the order confirmation, then assembles, checks and preps the regulator before you pick it up — so the gear arrives ready to dive rather than in a box of parts. Poseidon is keeping its existing regulator kits on sale too, but customers buying those online will be steered towards the configurator during checkout.

There's a dealer angle as well. Shops can embed the configurator directly on their own websites, which Poseidon's Head of Global Sales, Daniel Benér, says helps them support customers earlier in the buying process and position regulators as a customisable system rather than a one-size-fits-all product. Two video guides back the launch — one walking consumers through the tool, another showing dealers how to add the embedded version to their site.

Why should a travelling diver care? If you're progressing from recreational diving into sidemount, doubles or tec-style configurations — the kind of diving you might plan a trip around, whether that's cave country in Mexico or wreck penetration in the Baltic — this tool gives you a realistic sense of what your setup should look like before you spend serious money. And because the finished order routes through a local dealer for assembly and checking, you get a professionally built regulator rather than a mail-order gamble. It won't plan your next dive holiday for you, but it removes one of the more expensive ways divers get their pre-trip shopping wrong. Full details are at poseidon.com.
