A vineyard in Wiltshire is quietly becoming one of the UK's most appealing cabin escapes — and it works even if you don't drive. Liba Vineyard sits in Porton, a 15-minute taxi ride from Salisbury station and roughly two hours door-to-door from London, which puts it firmly in reach of car-free city dwellers.
The property has three pods — Beech, Hawthorn and Elder — linked by wood-chip paths. Each sleeps four and comes with a wood-fired hot tub. Hawthorn is the cosiest of the three and suits solo travellers or couples, Beech works best for families with children, and hiring all three turns the place into a private base for a birthday or group trip. Inside, the pods are bright and simply furnished, with proper flushing loos, strong showers, well-equipped kitchens, fold-out desks and genuinely fast Wi-Fi — so you can work there without going fully off-grid. An outdoor BBQ firepit handles the cooking, and peacocks, alpacas and chickens provide the morning soundtrack.
The setting does a lot of heavy lifting. Stonehenge is 15 minutes away, while Cranborne Chase National Landscape and the New Forest are both under half an hour by car. On-site, guests can join yoga classes above the winemaking barn on Mondays and Wednesdays, and owner Chris Reynolds personally tours every pod around the farm.
That farm is the bigger story. Liba is already certified organic and is working towards biodynamic certification, with wine expected from its vineyard within a few years at up to 10,000 bottles annually. Until then, a subscription lets visitors sponsor a vine in exchange for wine, pod stays and events such as harvest parties. Weddings are coming next summer on the 10-acre site, and a café is under discussion. Book soon if you want the quiet version before it grows.
For anyone after a restorative couple of nights in the countryside — solitude, walks, a fire, decent Wi-Fi and a hot tub — without hiring a car or blowing the budget, this is an easy one to bookmark.
