A new international art fair has arrived in Bangkok. "Art Bangkok 2026 – The First Chapter", organised by the Thai Galleries Association, opens tomorrow and runs daily from noon to 7pm until Sunday across the NEX Hall and Jewel Zone on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon on Rama I Road.

The four-day event brings together more than 20 leading galleries from Thailand and abroad, showing work by artists across generations. Alongside the booths, there is a programme of talks, knowledge-sharing sessions and networking events, built in collaboration with The Cloud.

The curatorial idea behind this first edition spans over 1,500 square metres and is split into six interconnected zones. The "Gallery Zone" pairs Thai and international galleries, each with its own curatorial approach, and frames the displays as a conversation between "Past | Present | Future". At "Art Jewel", the spotlight falls on emerging Thai artists, including participants from the BUA Painting of the Year programme, plus presentations from the internationally recognised Dorothy Curcic Gallery and works from Bangkok Auction.

Other zones push the fair beyond shopping for art. "Museums & Institutions" explores what it means to live with art, with presentations from museums and collectors. "Art Care & Stewardship" brings in global art logistics specialists Hasler to cover framing, installation, transport, insurance and storage — the unglamorous but essential side of building a collection. There is also an "Art Ecosystem" space designed for the people and organisations that drive the art world: award bodies, collector communities, foundations and media, plus a dedicated VIP lounge.

For visitors, the practical bits are simple. Tickets cost 350 baht per day, or 880 baht for a four-day VIP pass, available from zipeventapp.com.

Why should a traveller care? If you are in Bangkok this weekend, this is a rare chance to see Thailand's gallery scene and international dealers under one roof in the middle of the city's biggest shopping complex. It is a low-effort, high-reward add-on to any Bangkok itinerary — air-conditioned, centrally located near Siam BTS station, and easy to dip in and out of between lunch and dinner. Anyone curious about starting an art collection gets the full picture here, from which artists to watch to how to actually ship a painting home.
