Costa Navarino's The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, has laid out its autumn programme, and it leans into the season rather than fighting it. Milder temperatures, olive groves rolling down to the Ionian Sea, and a schedule built around wellness, sport and the deep history of Messinia — a region the resort notes has some 4,500 years of it.

For active guests, the kit list is serious. Four signature golf courses sit between the sea and the hills, and the resort hosts Europe's first Mouratoglou Tennis Center: 12 tennis courts plus three padel courts, two pickleball courts and a squash court. Guided hikes and cycling routes head out into the countryside at an easy autumn pace.

The calendar's centrepiece is the olive harvest. From mid-October, guests can work alongside local growers, follow the olives to a local press and taste the fresh extra virgin oil, either within Navarino Dunes itself or at nearby groves. There's also an Olive Oil Tasting Experience led by a recognised expert, with an upgraded version pairing four Greek oils with bread, olives, cheeses and dark chocolate.

Culture gets equal billing. The Messinian Odyssey tour traces the Homeric world of King Nestor, taking in the Palace of Nestor — the best-preserved Mycenaean palace in Greece, frescoes and Linear B tablets included — plus the Pylos Archaeological Museum and Niokastro Castle. A longer 6.5-hour version adds Voidokilia Beach and Nestor's Cave to the standard 4-hour route, and it finishes in the port of Pylos, where the wooden trireme used in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey recently docked. Further options run to Ancient Olympia (with a marble-carving session in a sculptor's studio), a treasure hunt at Ancient Messene, Methoni Castle followed by a coastal cruise to the Sapientza Islands, a Philosophy Walk led by a professor of Ancient Greek Literature, and Astronomy Nights under near-zero light pollution.

The wellness side is anchored at Anazoe Spa, which has just refreshed its offering around two pathways. The Longevity Compass focuses on biological renewal, starting with PNOE Metabolic Analysis — a read on oxygen use, cardiovascular efficiency and metabolic health — plus NEXA AI Skin Analysis and a tailored treatment plan. Highlights include the Helsi Ice Plunge, a guided cold immersion at 5–10°C, and a Heat & Ice area with sauna, herbal steam baths, Scottish showers and an ice grotto. The Kinetics Flow is the sporty counterpart: physiotherapist-led treatments such as Golfer's Body Preparation, deep tissue massage, myofascial release and percussion work, aimed at recovery after golf, tennis or a long ride.

Who's it for? Anyone after a shoulder-season Greek trip that combines proper sporting facilities with food and history — golfers and tennis players in autumn, food travellers once the harvest starts, and spa devotees who want data-driven longevity programming rather than a generic massage menu. It's an upscale choice, so it suits travellers happy to pay for a full-resort experience, with Ancient Olympia and Pylos close enough for rewarding day trips.
