Halloween in Bangkok is no longer a modest affair, and Megabangna Shopping Centre has gone all in. From 9 October to 1 November, the mall's Mega Plaza transforms into "Ananta University", a fictional campus where students keep disappearing and visitors play the role of new intake trying to survive orientation. The event, Mega Halloween 2026: Haunted University, is an immersive haunted-house experience built around the tagline "Six Haunted Faculties. Enter If You Dare. Escape If You Can".

The premise is straightforward: follow a trail of clues through six themed faculties, each with its own creepy backstory. IT houses a shrine built to keep restless spirits quiet; the Science lab runs an experiment that has crossed into the afterlife; a cursed textbook lurks in the Central Library; a phantom traditional dancer haunts Fine Arts; and the Nursing faculty contains a hospital bed nobody will sleep in. The final stop is the Dean's Room, where the truth behind the vanishing students may finally surface.

Survivors get more than bragging rights. Completing the mission puts you in the running for a share of B100,000 in cash prizes, and filling out a post-experience survey earns a free ticket to Mega Cineplex. Tickets are sold through XPass, with one useful trick for budget travellers: drop by between noon and 1pm and the price drops by B100. Participants must be at least 13, so this is a teen-and-up outing rather than a family matinee.

The scare programme goes beyond the walk-through. On 24 and 31 October, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, the same campus setting hosts "Nights Of The Forbidden Stories", a free live storytelling session featuring well-known Thai horror voices. Mega Smile Rewards members can also grab a free photo booth session themed on the haunted uni from 23 October to 1 November.

Why should a traveller care? Halloween events like this are a genuinely fun way to experience Bangkok beyond temples and markets, and Megabangna's angle — a full narrative mission rather than a jump-scare corridor — stands out. It's also indoors, which matters in October when the rainy season still has its grip on the city. The mall sits in Bang Na, a short hop from the airport corridor, so it pairs easily with a southern-Bangkok day. Timing matters: the midday discount window and the free storytelling evenings make 24 or 31 October the smart dates to go.

If you're in the Thai capital in late October and fancy a horror fix with a storyline, put Ananta University on the list — just be out before the Dean finds you. — Bangkok Post Life
