One of Bali's most quietly famous luxury resorts just got a refresh. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, the jungle retreat set above the Ayung River near Ubud, has unveiled seven redesigned suites: five Premier Duplex Suites and two Premier Family Suites, all created with hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates.

The idea was to let the setting do the talking. Floor-to-ceiling windows now frame the river valley directly, while the interiors lean into Balinese craft — hand-loomed textiles, locally made details, and pale earthy tones drawn from the rice terraces around Ubud. There's modern tech tucked in too, including LUTRON lighting and smart-living controls, so the suites feel current without losing the resort's signature sense of calm.

The two suite types work for very different trips. The Premier Duplex Suite spans two levels above the Ayung: a light-filled living and dining area with full-height river views upstairs, a teak-and-textile bedroom below, and a private sun terrace for the in-between hours. The Premier Family Suite, located in the main building, is built around a dedicated kids' room — a rare thing in high-end resort design — alongside a generous living space with wide valley views. Families who usually struggle to find luxury rooms that genuinely accommodate children now have a proper option in Ubud.

General manager Didier Jardin framed the renovation as a continuation of Sayan's founding identity: design in harmony with nature, now with the connection to the river and valley strengthened rather than softened.

Sustainability played a real role rather than a token one. The team refurbished the existing structural framework to cut demand for new materials, sourced replacements locally where possible and chose them for longevity, and fitted next-generation air conditioning with environmentally responsible refrigerants plus energy-efficient LED lighting. For travellers who care where their luxury spend lands, that's a meaningful detail — the redesign treads lightly on the landscape it showcases.

Why it matters: Sayan has long been a bucket-list stay for anyone combining Bali's cultural heartland with serious luxury — it sits minutes from Ubud's temples, galleries and rice-field walks, with the river valley as a backdrop. The new suites give returning guests a reason to book again and give first-timers an upgraded version of one of the island's most distinctive properties. Duplex layouts suit couples after space and views; the family suites make a multi-night Ubud stay genuinely workable with kids in tow.

If Sayan is on your list, this is the moment to look at the refreshed suite categories — and to do it before word spreads and availability tightens in high season.
