A quiet atoll in the far south of the Maldives is about to get unusually crowded with culinary talent. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa has announced the Masters of Food & Wine Series, a run of six guest-chef residencies stretching from October 2026 to April 2027, each timed to a different moment in the holiday calendar.

The resort, which markets itself as "Our Living Island", first trialled the concept with a single event in July 2026. It clearly worked — the new format books six chefs, all making their first appearance in the Maldives, and all asked to build menus around local seafood, island-grown ingredients and the Indian Ocean's natural larder rather than simply flying their home menus in.

The calendar reads like a highlights reel of the season. Cantonese master Ku Chi Fai, founder of MICHELIN-starred Beijing Kitchen and a veteran of more than four decades, opens the series on 2 and 5 October 2026 during Chinese Golden Week. Andrea Mattei, holder of a MICHELIN Green Star for sustainable gastronomy, brings Tuscan festive cooking on 14 and 18 December. Ruben Christiaens of Brussels' La Villa Lorraine — the MICHELIN Young Chef Award 2022 winner who has passed through New York's Eleven Madison Park — kicks off the New Year on 6 and 10 January 2027. Germany's Michael Dyllong of starred restaurant The Stage follows on 23 and 26 January. Easter gets French-Corsican treatment from Richard Gabriel Toix of MICHELIN-starred Le Charlie on 26 and 29 March 2027, and the finale belongs to group chef David Hemmerlé, whose career spans France, Brazil, Russia, the UAE and the UK, on 5 and 8 April 2027.

For anyone already weighing up a Maldives trip in that window, the series adds a genuine differentiator. Guest-chef dinners are common at big resorts, but a season-long structure tied to Golden Week, Christmas, New Year, Easter and spring is rarer — and Hadahaa's remote position in Huvadhoo Atoll, far from the crowded Malé corridor, gives the whole thing an intimate edge. Each chapter is essentially a two-night event, so timing your stay to a specific chef is very doable.

Worth noting too: the appetite for Maldives culinary residencies is clearly growing. Over at Alila Kothaifaru in Raa Atoll, Joshua Acquaviva, head chef of Park Hyatt Milan's Pellico 3 and a Naples native, takes over the beachside Italian restaurant Pibati Sul Mare from 25 October to 3 November 2026 — with hands-on pizza-making sessions capped at just eight guests. Between the two, travellers can now plan an entire Indian Ocean trip around eating, not just snorkelling.
