Dubai's biggest outdoor attraction is back for another season. Global Village reopens on Wednesday, October 14, at 6pm, and there's a fair amount that's changed since last year.

The park stretches across 29 pavilions representing more than 90 cultures, lined with over 3,500 shopping outlets. This season, the Sri Lanka, Russian and Azerbaijan pavilions have been refreshed, while the Syrian and Kuwait pavilions return with entirely new looks. Gardens of the World is also back with added elements, and the Dessert District has had a redesign.

Food is half the reason people come. There are more than 250 dining options this year, including newcomers such as Trabzon Turkish Restaurant, Vinci Dolci, Emir Bey Gourmet and Uzungol Café, plus Restaurant Plaza hosting Egyptian hawawshi spot Hawawshi Al Rabie, Levantine outlet Robo Al Sham, and fried chicken chain Chicking.

Thrill-seekers get the headline addition: Tokyo Rush, a new roller coaster with sharp turns, high speeds and a loop. The Ferris Wheel has also been given a new look, and returning favourites include The Dragon Kingdom, The Horror Hotel, Secrets of the Lost City and Exo Planet City.

On the entertainment side, the park is promising 40,000 shows across the season. The standouts are Fast Live 2: The Police Strikes Back, a new stunt show, plus two anchor productions: Bollywood Idol and Bank Heist, an acrobatic adventure inspired by true crime.

Practical upgrades worth knowing about: a passport-collecting scheme similar to Expo 2020 Dubai's, with a new design plus a Kids Passport, gets stamped at stations in every pavilion. There's now a chatbot for on-the-spot info on your phone, and VIP parking payment has moved to self-service vending machines near the exits to cut congestion.

Tickets cost Dhs25 on weekdays and Dhs30 on weekends (Friday to Sunday) and public holidays, and the park advises buying only through its official website or app. Opening hours run from 4pm to midnight Sunday to Wednesday, and 4pm to 1am Thursday to Saturday and on public holidays.

If you're visiting Dubai between October and spring, Global Village is one of the easiest evenings out in the city — cheap entry, food from practically every continent, and enough shows and rides to fill a whole night. Wear comfortable shoes; those 3,500 shops are not exaggerating.
